Religious Education and World Views

Our curriculum will have opportunities for our children to gain lifelong understanding of religion and worldviews which will prepare them for life in modern Britain. Children will understand what it means to believe in a religion or faith, how this varies for different people and how this shapes their lives and behaviour. Children will consider their own faith and beliefs as well as listening to those of others. Our curriculum is designed to ensure that our children receive a balanced, open-minded and comprehensive education in RE which is rooted in enquiry.

During Key Stage 1, pupils begin to explore religion and belief through stories, celebrations, and special places. They learn about different faiths and begin to recognise the importance of belonging, kindness, and respect. Pupils are encouraged to ask questions, reflect on their own experiences, and develop an awareness of the beliefs and practices of others. Through discussion, role play and creative activities, they begin to understand how religion influences the lives of individuals and communities.

During Key Stage 2, pupils deepen their understanding of a range of religions and world views. They explore key beliefs, teachings and practices, and consider how these shape identity and behaviour. Pupils are encouraged to think critically, compare different viewpoints, and reflect on moral and philosophical questions. They develop their ability to express ideas clearly and respectfully, using subject-specific vocabulary. Through enquiry-based learning, they gain insight into the diversity of belief in the UK and the wider world, and consider how religion contributes to culture, values and community life.
