Week ending 03/10/25
Saturn Class have had a busy few weeks!
In maths, the children have ploughed through place value (including partitioning, rounding and counting through zero), and are now starting work on the four operations. This week, they have been focusing on mental methods for addition and subtraction.
Our English lessons are focused around the text 'Gregory Cool'. They have been exploring the experiences and emotions of the main character through text and illustration analysis, comprehension questions and hot seating. Next week, the children will be writing informal letters in-role.
In music, the children have been learning 'You've got a friend' by Carole King. They're really good at singing it, so this week we moved on to playing it on the recorder. They did brilliantly, so you can look forward to recordings of their renditions in the coming weeks!
For our topic work, the children have been enjoying finding out about ancient Maya cities and are in the process of creating informative diagrams about Maya pyramids, using lift-up flaps and other engaging design features.
The Year 6 children who wanted to run for the role of House Captains recorded short campaign speeches. These were watched by the rest of the school who voted for who they wanted to lead their house. The successful candidates will be announced in an upcoming celebration assembly.
The class have been thoroughly enjoying their team building P.E. lessons with Mrs Osbourne. Mrs King even got to join in this week, to make up the numbers for the groups! Mrs O. always compliments the behaviour and attitude of the class - they are a superb bunch!
